Prisoner’s Dilemma

Prisoner’s Dilemma
February 16, 2025 by Maryam Arshad

You broke me like a promise.

It’s quiet and hurtful, but hey, look at me, nobody knows about it, so we’re good.

My life feels like a broken glass right now; the more I try to fix it, the more I hurt myself. All the strategies are failing.

May you get what you’re looking for!

There is a chincese curse. ‘May you get what you’re looking for.’  I want to curse you at this point in my life. May you truly get what you’re looking for, for better or for worse. But you’ll get there! I promise. coz I will get there too, for my better, or my worse!

All it takes is one accusation, one moment, and just like that, everything crumbles.
Gone.

We often forget how deeply we are influenced by the energy of those we think are ‘on our side’!
Their moods, their judgments, their silent expectations—
They can push us to say or do things we never truly meant.
We lose ourselves, little by little, under their invisible weight. Shoulders – I hate my shoulders these days; they are not keeping the weight they used to take on! I am losing myself ergh….in my prime.

So this is what it takes, huh? Every single vein in my body is in remorse, in immense pain. And I am not able to untie the grip with my bare hands. Something is there howling over my head, creeping me out in the middle of the night.

I am done with this life or Lies! Haha!

And when the damage is done, they step back,
watching the pieces fall into place,
as if they had nothing to do with it.
Waiting, almost patiently, for your fall.

I am not talking about you as another human being, we are one!

The humans that you love the most!

They’ll choose the players carefully—two souls, unsuspecting.

They will put together two people who really care about each other ~ against each other!

And then they’ll stitch together the fragments of a story never meant to be true.
Two pieces forced to fit, not by design, but by fate.
And then the attackers, the not-well-wishers, they wait.
Silent. Patient. Like an alligator, moving towards its prey,
Watching the cracks form,  giving you the challenges you were meant to fail, moment by moment,
knowing exactly where the chain will snap. And then on God’s green earth, it does!

They hold every card, every secret, every move.
They know your fears, your scars,
 and your silences.

They know where to attack!

You were never the player—
just the pawn dressed in hope.
Just the sacrifice they needed to prove a nasty point.

So, my love, do not turn on your fellow prisoners. Once they are done playing with your mind, you’ll take a bullet, not a reward.

Glossery: Your fellow prisoner is anyone who ‘you’re in this together’ with!

What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?
I hope you have a sad story too!
